Leading up to this point, David has been on one crazy trip! He’s put to the test; he is on the run for his life, and what next? His strategy of battle, and what he thought was the next step, or best option was rejected. A joining of forces with the Philistines, was rejected.
David and his men are on the way back, only to find their home has been raided. I cannot even begin to think about the emotions that were going on with David’s men as they realize what had happened. The men were gone attempting to make a treaty, it failed, and now their homes and families have been raided by the Amalekites.
“David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began talk of stoning him.” (30:6)
How many times have you been in situations that have seemed hopeless, unfair, ridiculously disappointing? When you think you are going the right direction, and boom, you fail, and then you get hit while you are down? What happens to you in those situations? What is your response?
“But David found strength in the Lord his God.” (30:6)
It is so easy for me to have my momentary freak out session, and then try to take things into my own hands, and my own control, and to brush aside the need to find my strength in the Lord MY God.
It’s in those moments of vulnerability that we need to find our strength in OUR God. He is the maker of the universe, the one who is in control, and the one who sent his one and only Son for me, for you.
When we find strength in our God, trust him with everything; it becomes clear how he brings VICTORY in our lives in his perfect timing.
Find strength in the Lord YOUR God.
