Many things take away from our focus from God, and take away from our consuming our hearts and minds from worshipping God completely. We get so caught up in our daily routines, and get consumed with the next biggest thing, consumed with materialism, our salaries, our friends, our comfort, or lack of those things. We forget the reason why we are here, we forget our purpose and our calling, and ultimately why we are here, on earth: To bring glory and fame to our Heavenly Father.
And when we are in those situations where our focus isn’t on God, we tend to lose humility, and swell with pride, assuming that we know more than we know. Its much harder to take correction, when you don’t feel that you are wrong, or where pride has infiltrated your heart. The people of Israel, did that for generations, they didn’t listen to God, and his warning and correction to them. (44:5) In Jeremiah 44:10 it says, “They have not humbled themselves even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your fathers,” Jeremiah 44:10.
When we take our focus off of God, we aren’t easily humbled. We become arrogant. Correction is needed, to put our hearts in the right place. Justice & Discipline are needed, but God will not destroy us, he will save us from exile, like he promised the Israelites.
27 “Do not fear, O Jacob my servant;
do not be dismayed, O Israel.
I will surely save you out of a distant place,
your descendants from the land of their exile.
Jacob will again have peace and security,
and no one will make him afraid.
28 Do not fear, O Jacob my servant,
for I am with you,” declares the LORD.
“Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only with justice;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”
What areas do you need to re-focus your attention to God? Where are some areas where idolatry & pride are sneaking in? Take some time today to really see what is going on in your heart, and bring all glory and worship to the one who deserves it.
