Today’s reading begins with some cool prophecy. God resurrects a huge pile of bones and turns them into “an exceedingly great army.” The prophecy is a picture of Israel coming back together into one nation. In the second half of the chapter he joins two sticks together representing Joseph and Judah, as a physical representation of the people of Israel being gathered together.
It’s also a great picture of the power of God. There have been times in my life where I’m sharing the Lord with someone and the person feels like they are beyond the reach of God. They feel like they’re so far gone that God can’t save them. They feel like they’re spiritually dead.
Similarly, Israel felt as though all hope was lost, that they were a dead nation…they were cut off from their land…but the Lord has brought some of this prophecy to fruition and has given Israel back their land.
God proves that nobody is every so far gone that He can’t breathe some life into them. “I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live…” If He can breathe life into a pile of dry bones, imagine what He can do with you!
