“…God made man in his own image.” -Genesis 9:6b
Theologians debate exactly what it means to be created in the image of God. Some claim it is our intellect, our capacity for reasoning and self-reflection. Others say it is in our role as rulers of creation (Gen 1:28). Still others argue it is found in our relational nature. While it may not be clear exactly how we reflect the image of God, what is not up for debate is that God made us like himself.
Think about that for a moment.
The omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent master of all that exists saw fit to make us in his image.
When you look into the eyes of your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, and even your enemies, you are seeing a glimpse of the divine. You are staring at the imago Dei, the very image of God.
