Henry

Written by Maegan Stout | August 20, 2010 |

The book of Ezekiel is like an Old Testament Revelation. The whole entire point of the Ezekiel is that people would know that the Lord is God. The name “Ezekiel” means “The glory of the Lord.”

A good chunk of Ezekiel – chapters 4-32 – is judgment against Judah and the surrounding nations. These judgments are essentially the Lord saying, “I am not there.” I have removed my presence from …

The Temple then, and now (Ezekiel 41-44)

Written by Jenilee LeFors | August 19, 2010 | Ezekiel 41 - 44

I have started, deleted, and started over again this blog. Then when I got stuck I took a break, I called my friend Courtney, told her to read it and get back to me. I sat in Heather’s office bouncing off ideas, trying to grasp what was going on in this book and probably overstayed my welcome this week. I would gain the momentum then again to start back again. …

How Dead Are You? Ezekiel 37-40

Written by Andy Pisciotti | August 18, 2010 | Ezekiel 37 - 40

Today’s reading begins with some cool prophecy. God resurrects a huge pile of bones and turns them into “an exceedingly great army.” The prophecy is a picture of Israel coming back together into one nation. In the second half of the chapter he joins two sticks together representing Joseph and Judah, as a physical representation of the people of Israel being gathered together.

It’s also a great picture of …

The stuff that offends (33-36)

Written by Dave Schmidgall | August 17, 2010 |

I was talking to someone yesterday and they were expressing their utter exhaustion in reading through the prophets.  “Why will you die, Israel?”  “Jerusalem struck down” are subject headings that really lift your spirits before slipping into your business casual and working the 9-5.

In today’s readings, we continue looking at what will happen IF they do not turn back, if His people do not repent.  Tim Keller shared …

JUDGEMENT!!!

Written by Ross Middleton | August 15, 2010 | Ezekiel 25 - 28

Starting in Ezekiel 25 is where we begin to read oracles against the nations. This is basically like a laundry list of everything you could do wrong to incur the judgement of God. I want to focus on Ezekiel 28 for this particular blog. Its an amazing look into what brings people to the ground in pride.

Starting in verse 12, the Lord says to the King of Tyre, …

Taking Responsibilty for Our Choices

Written by Chris Jarrell | August 13, 2010 |

Growing up with all the baggage that I had it would have been so easy for me to male excuses for the bad choices I was making as a teenager and as an young adult.  For awhile, I did not take ownership of my choices and for the things I was doing in my life.  I would always, pass the buck to my parents.  I would say things like, “if …

Sodom and the American Church

Written by Will Johnston | August 12, 2010 | Ezekiel 13 - 16

“Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.”

-Ezekiel 16:49

Most people have heard the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities that God destroys because of their wickedness.  We most often associate Sodom with sexual sin – not without cause, but there were …

Ezekiel 9-12

Written by Andy Pisciotti | August 11, 2010 | Ezekiel 9 - 12

I remember the day I realized that God could be present outside of a church. I was in 4th grade at summer camp. I had been before so I’m not sure what was different but something clicked… “God can be present here too.” It may seem small or insignificant but for my 9 year old world it was profound. God cannot be bound or confined to any place because His …

Ezekiel 5-8

Written by Andy Pisciotti | August 10, 2010 | Ezekiel 5 - 8

Deuteronomy 28:9-10 says:

“If you obey the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways, the LORD will establish you as his holy people as he swore he would do. Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the LORD, and they will stand in awe of you.” (NLT)

This is what the Lord called the nation of Israel …

Ezekiel Background

Written by Andy Pisciotti | August 9, 2010 |

The Book of Ezekiel is freakingly awesome to read. Ezekiel is the guy that you don’t want as a neighbor because he makes your property value go waaaaaay down. Although he is a bit strange his life is fascinating. From dreams of eating scrolls of destructions that taste like honey to laying on each of his sides in the fetal position for 40 days and using only a fire made …
