Jeremiah 4-6

Written by Kari Olney | March 5, 2010 | Jeremiah 4 - 6

I would like to imagine Jeremiah sat at one of our movie theatre at around 3000-2500 years ago, weep as a watchman, he watched the alarmed promised destruction:

In the time of destruction, Judah and Jerusalem are both dispersed. Motorcycles rushed across the bridge, speedboats speeded under, people dived from the cliff, and kayak flipped over to hide. All of sudden, the land is desolated; no one is walking around …

Book Background: Jeremiah

Written by Andy Pisciotti | March 4, 2010 | Jeremiah 1 - 3

The Book of Jeremiah was written roughly between 600 and 550 B.C.E. It was written leading up to and during the Babylonian sacking of Jerusalem and subsequent exile of what remained of Judah. God cries out through Jeremiah for His people to repent, put to death their pagan gods, and return to Him. They don’t listen.

Jeremiah is a prophet and the Book of Jeremiah is a prophetic text. Prophets …

Jeremiah 1-3

Written by Chris Jarrell | March 4, 2010 | Jeremiah 1 - 3

Along with some interesting references to the “Behemoth” and the “Leviathan” and the phrase “dress for action like a man” (which shows up twice), we finally see the vindication and restoration of Job.

Because I get really excited about the theology of community, I can’t help but point …

Job 37-39

Written by Jenilee LeFors | March 2, 2010 | Job 37 - 39

Have you ever gone through a period of time when you felt like God was distant, in a far away land? Where is he when you have these looming questions and when things seem like they are falling apart? Why hasn’t he answered you? Why am I going through the things I am going through?

I have had so many questions that I have thrown up to God, and …

Job 34-36

Written by Heather Zempel | March 1, 2010 | Job 34 - 36

Does anyone know what to do with this Elihu kid? For five uninterrupted chapters, he spouts his opinion…some of which seems good while the rest seems no better than contributions of the three “friends.” We learned a couple days ago that Elihu had not yet spoken in deference to the older men. But once he realized they had no solution or satisfactory conclusion for the problem of Job, he entered …
