Tell Me Something Good…

Written by Jeremy Sexton | March 14, 2010 | Jeremiah 34 - 37

There’s an old saying that goes, “You catch more flies with honey.” People tend to respond better to positivity than they do to negativity. If you approach someone in a positive light and win them over, they are more likely to hear what you have to say.

Someone should tell God this. He didn’t get the memo.

Jeremiah’s a rough book to get through. God uses Jeremiah to remind Judah …

Information?  Yes, but where has all the wisdom gone? (30-33)

Written by Dave Schmidgall | March 13, 2010 |

“The Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord:  Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.” (33:2,3)

We’re now dealing with an age of too much information.  Crazy to think that.  Sixty years ago, digital computers made information readable.  Twenty years ago, the Internet made it reachable.  Ten years ago, the first …

Jeremiah 27-29

Written by Ross Middleton | March 12, 2010 | Jeremiah 27 - 29

Two interesting things stick out in these two chapters.

God tells Jeremiah to place a wooden yoke on his body before he begins prophesying. For all we can tell, he prophesied and left it on all the time because later, Hananiah, the false prophet, comes in 28:12 and breaks the yoke off of Jeremiah’s neck. To me at first read this whole wear your yoke around thing is pretty …

Wanna Get Away? 24-26

Written by Andy Pisciotti | March 11, 2010 | Jeremiah 24 - 26

We are up to chapter 27 now and its easy to feel like you have read the same chapter 27 times. I mean come on people, listen to the man sent by God already! How many more times and in how many more ways can one persuade you to return back to God before you and your whole nation becomes dismantled like rotten figs? Now, we find ourselves at the …

Jeremiah 21-23

Written by Andy Pisciotti | March 10, 2010 | Jeremiah 21 - 23

This whole false prophet thing that Jeremiah is confronted with in these chapters is astonishing to me. Here are a couple questions that come to my mind. Do these guys know they are fooling themselves? Do they know that Jeremiah is right and yet are still speaking lies to the people of Judah? It seems that the false prophets are just telling the people what they want to hear which …

Jeremiah 18-20

Written by Andy Pisciotti | March 9, 2010 |

God has already spoken plenty through Jeremiah, explaining how and where His people have gone astray-  He has also made it plain and clear through which means He plans to judge His people.  The warnings have been straight forward, direct and harsh.  But here, in Chapter 18 we see that through the vision of the potter and the clay- God demonstrates that it is indeed His sovereign right to judge …

Jeremiah 15-17

Written by Joel Schmidgall | March 8, 2010 | Jeremiah 15 - 17

There’s no way to sugar coat the harsh language of Jeremiah 15.  Mathew Henry’s commentary says it well, “We scarcely find anywhere more pathetic expressions of divine wrath against a provoking people than we have here in these verses.”  We see the outcome of the broken covenant.

I’ve had the unfortunate opportunity to walk with some people through the broken covenant of marriage.  Infidelity is a brutal thing. No party …

Jeremiah 11-14

Written by Mark Batterson | March 7, 2010 | Jeremiah 11 - 14

In Jeremiah 11, the Lord tells the Israelites to “obey my voice”, “listen to my voice,” and “incline their ear”.

I love the simplicity of this.  All we have to do is listen. That’s it.  How do we do that? Well, God speaks in several ways. He speaks through creation. He speaks through Scripture. He speaks in the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit. We’ve got to incline …

Jeremiah 7-10

Written by Heather Zempel | March 6, 2010 | Jeremiah 7 - 10

By Brandt Siegel

These chapters from Jeremiah express such powerful descriptions of God’s anger.  Like Jeremiah (8:18), I find them unnerving.  Why is God so profoundly angry?  Is he too stern?  How do I reconcile the God who died for us with this angry God?

After reading this, I thought of a question Pastor Mark has posed to us.  What makes you cry or pound your fist?  I think …
